The much-needed project to alleviate the impact of seasonal rains and prevent flooding in Soi Phaniang began on Nov 1 last year, commencing with the upgrade of the water pump station, situated on the northern bank of the Bang Yai Canal, opposite Bangkok Hospital Phuket.

When starting the project, Phuket City Municipality explained that the comprehensive plan would impact areas both north and south of Yaowarat Rd, as the drains needed to run through the Soi Yaowarat 1 and 2 residential community, spanning from Soi Phaniang to the the Bang Yai Canal.

As announced on Feb 4 by Phuket City Municipality, the next phase of the project is scheduled to start from Monday (Feb 5) and run until May 31. During the said period, workers will be installing a reinforced concrete drain along Soi Yaowarat 2, from the pumping station to Yaowarat Rd. The work will be taking place along the street from 8am to 5pm every day.

"During construction, it will be necessary to periodically close traffic on the road. Please use alternative routes on such days," advised Phuket City Municipality.

"Please also refrain from parking any types of vehicles on the road or obstructing it in any other way during the construction period," the municipality asked.

According to the map provided by Phuket City Municipality, workers will gradually progress from the canal towards Yaowarat Rd., meaning only specific segments of the street will be directly affected during any specific sub-phase of the project.
